Tribute to Malcolm Hockett, 1947 - 2026

As an articled clerk and then a qualified young property lawyers at Rowe & Maw, Malcolm was the go to font of all legal knowledge for anything litigation or dispute related.  He was also just a lovely soul who helped guide and encourage those who sought him out.  He was a delight to work with and was great to be around.  That really helped me when he and I were cornered in a client's warehouse when we went for a site visit to look at issuing trespass and possession proceedings.  A large group of travellers locked us in one area of the building and left us for an hour or so.  Malcolm was very calm and told me very confidently that they would let us out soon.  I had visions of two starving lawyers being found months later!  In any event, Malcolm was right of course and we were let out relatively quickly, proceedings issued once we escaped back to the office and the property resecured in next to no time.  He was just great and I loved working with him.  Sending love to Christine, Amanda, Justine and the entire family at this sad time.

Malcolm was a kind, thoughtful man and it meant a lot to our family that he always made time to visit us here in Christchurch whenever he and Christine were in New Zealand.  Those visits were always a highlight, catching up and  seeing a familiar face, sharing time together, and hearing their travel stories. Malcolm will be deeply missed, and send our love and condolences to Christine, Justine, Amanda and the family.Leexxx
